Melatonin is for More than Just Sleep!
Melatonin
is great when used to help us maintain nature's circadian rhythm, which
is the normal wake / sleep cycle. So instead of using herbal sleep
aids when you are unable to sleep, reach for sublingual melatonin. Our
circadian rhythm is an internal 24-hour “clock” that plays a critical
role in when we fall asleep and when we wake up. When it is dark, we
should produce more melatonin; when it is light, the production of
melatonin should drop. Being exposed to bright lights in the evening or
too little light during the day can disrupt our normal melatonin cycles.
Other things that effect our normal melatonin levels are jet lag, shift
work, poor vision, and the shorter days during the Winter. Most
recently added to the mix that makes us unable to sleep is electrical
stimulation from computers, cell phones, tablets and electronic games!
Why Sublingual Melatonin?
- Sublingual for better, more immediate absorption
- Helps the body correct and maintain circadian rhythm
- Helps control the timing and release of female reproductive hormones
- Anti-aging hormone and is a strong antioxidant and preliminary evidence suggests melatonin may help strengthen the immune system
- Restful sleep supports weight loss (insomnia promotes weight gain)
- To calm an active mind: add Adrena-Plex to help rebuild the adrenal glands and nervous system
Melatonin
also helps control the timing and release of female reproductive
hormones. It helps determine when a woman begins to menstruate, the
frequency and duration of menstrual cycles and when a woman stops
menstruating (menopause). The body’s natural melatonin levels slowly
drop with age, along with more difficulty in maintaining healthy weight,
which is why sublingual melatonin is an excellant anti-aging hormone.
Scientists are also looking at other good uses for melatonin related to:
- Sleep problems associated with menopause
- Treating seasonal affect disorder (SAD)
- Helping to control sleep patterns for people who work night shifts
- Preventing or reducing problems with sleeping and confusion after surgery
- Reducing chronic cluster headaches
- Studies
suggest that melatonin levels may be associated with breast cancer risk
(Women with breast cancer tend to have lower levels of melatonin than
their healthy counterparts)
- Studies suggest that melatonin
levels may be associated with prostate cancer risk (Men with prostate
cancer tend to have lower melatonin levels than their healthy
counterparts)
- Some evidence suggests melatonin may help promote sleep in children with ADHD
- Irritable Bowel Syndrome – preliminary studies show melatonin may help with some symptoms including abdominal pain
- Studies in rats suggest that melatonin may be effective for treating Alzheimer’s disease
